Why Does PE Protective Film Leave Adhesive Residue?

With the continuous improvement of economic level, PE protective film is widely used, and its arrival has brought great convenience to our lives. When using it, we should pay attention to its correct use. Sometimes, we may find that residual glue is left behind by the PE protective film. What is the reason for this? Today we will discuss the reasons for residual glue left by the PE protective film.

Change in peel strength of PE protective film over time

No matter how high the surface gloss is, the object surface is distributed with many microscopic holes that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Although pressure-sensitive adhesive has undergone crosslinking, it still has certain deformation and fluidity, especially the un-crosslinked polymer.

With the passage of time, the pressure-sensitive adhesive gradually penetrates into the gap, forming an "anchor." In addition, although the pressure is high when attaching the PE protection film, the contact area between the pressure-sensitive adhesive and the material surface is not very large. With the passage of time, the contact area gradually increases, and the strength between the pe protection film and the protected surface also gradually increases. Both actions will increase the peel strength with the extension of time.

Aging mechanism of PE protective film

The main chain of acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is a saturated chain, and ordinary thermal energy is difficult to cause the main chain to break. The aging mechanism is mainly ultraviolet aging; the aging of the substrate is also mainly ultraviolet aging.

For example, the tensile strength of the PE film substrate after aging in an environment of 80℃ with a 30W UV lamp supplier for 1 week. The results show that the usual use temperature has little effect on its aging performance, while the influence of ultraviolet rays is relatively large, but there is a synergistic aging effect under the dual action of heat and ultraviolet rays.

Similar compatibility mechanism of PE protective film

Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is a material with high polarity and is easy to be compatible with polar materials such as acrylic, polyester, and polyurethane, which makes it difficult to remove the PE protective film.

Sometimes, small molecule substances that have not participated in crosslinking of the pressure-sensitive adhesive will accumulate on the surface. If the interaction force between the protected surface material and these small molecules is large, residual migration of small molecules will occur.

Egret is a leading manufacturer of tapes and non-tapes. Such as: aluminum foil tape, PE tape, pet adhesive tape, PVC tape, foam tape. And double-sided tape, cloth tape, shielding tape, kraft paper tape, BOPP tape, etc. Currently, the main customer group is refrigerator factories. In addition, we also manufacture pressure switches and other HVAC components for commercial air conditioning systems. Welcome to inquire.
